I'm beavering away on a painting of a scaled up book. Fascinated by the large sticker like graphic proclaiming "The next Stieg Larsson" on the Jo Nesbo thrillers. I was fascinated with this notion of selling a work by comparing the fiction to that of another. The suggestion is the cover is a promotional tool rather than part of the art. OK so not uncommon in publishing, I guess, but what if I put a sticker on the frame of one of my paintings claiming " The next Constable" - bit weird really. So this work aims to parody this graphic style with the "sticker" proclaiming "The next but one Stieg Larssonson"
Andrew is exhibiting at two concurrent exhibitions this weekend. Firstly there is the Kimpton Art Festival Friday 2nd May - Monday 5th. Here he is displaying 4 pictures.
The Second show is the Hertford Open 4th May -17th - where Andrew is delighted to have 5 of his 6 submitted works displayed. On the afternoon of the opening day Andrew was delighted to discover that one of the works "View from the Boathouse" (above) had sold! Sad to be leaving my office "studio" today after about two and a half years. Reducing costs means I'll no longer be painting at Storage King Dunstable. I'm now back home in our second bedroom - redecorated as "the studio". Here are some photos from the last few days there after removal of various shelves and tables.
Delighted to announce that three paintings have been accepted into this year's Luton Art Exhibition. "Meeting Point" above (specially painted for the exhibition) was awarded "highly commended". The two other paintings on show are "Across the Mersey" and "Scholar's Mate". The exhibition ends Sunday 2nd March 2014. Click on the image to see a larger version...
So the exhibition is definitely happening - to prove it i've made a model to see how the paintings fit. I have one still to do! 60cm square garden scene on the left wall. Better get my skates on.
