47. Liverpool Cathedral
25.5cm high x 20.5cm wide
Acrylic on deep edged canvas
2013
SOLD
Exhibited at the Eagle Gallery “The Garden and Beyond” Andrew Naish one man show 12th – 19th October 2013
We spent three days up in Liverpool for my wife’s cousins wedding around August 3rd 2013. We stayed at the Staybridge suites overlooking the Echo Arena and the Mersey beyond. At surprisingly good value, the “suite” had two rooms with views both over the Echo arena and of a multi-storey car park. Though from this window, one could sit on the ledge and see back towards Liverpool Cathedral, which is what I’ve attempted to capture here.
The first couple of days were nice and sunny and at a certain point the sun caught the cathedral with a warm glow which is what I’ve gone for here. So much of the time the building looks dark browny-red and is somehow ominous. Perhaps this look would be more accurate to its common appearance, but I liked this lighter more ethereal appearance. I was fairly tidy with me en-plein approach and certainly nice and warm – and I didn’t paint the curtains or the carpet at-all!
