42. Bavarian Landscape
70cm high x 244cm wide
Interactive Acrylic on 12mm mdf
2013
SOLD
Exhibited privately as backdrop for Railway layout
This was a commission and so I was on my best behavior. This piece was certainly the widest work I’ve done to date. Measuring 8ft wide, I had to rearrange my small studio somewhat, and it dominated the space spanning two easels.
I chose to do the piece on 12mm MDF which I sealed front and back with Gesso (fascinating how different brands of this are frankly different substances) – several coats so that it wouldn’t warp at all with one side painted- though with a 12mm material displayed against a wall I probably would have been OK.
I composed this using some of my own photos of the region and stock shots from the internet. Mashed them all together and created a reference photo that created the atmosphere of Bavaria although not a real place. The Model Railway this piece was to be the backdrop to was German 1950’s.
The parameters other than the German location, was the size of the board and the fact of a waterway entering the foreground between 700mm and 1000mm form the left hand side.
It seems to do the job and the client was happy.
