20. Yellow Burst
30cm x 30cm
Interactive Acrylic on deep edged canvas
2012
SOLD
Exhibited at Luton Hoo walled garden exhibition 2012
Exhibited at the Eagle Gallery “The Garden and Beyond” Andrew Naish one man show 12th – 19th October 2013
This was a small canvas and made me tear my hair out on more than one occasion. Being small, one tends to look quite closely at the piece and so I could not really get away with sloppy detail.
This could have been quite a drawing exercise – so I used a tracing sheet and traced from an actual size print out of the cropped photo. Some might call this cheating perhaps, but hey it gets the job done. As with all in this garden series I used a box canvas and continue the image around the edges. The small size dictated that I actually use real image from the original photo on the edges as extending some of the colours and shapes around the sides as with last year’s entries just wouldn’t wash.
For a long time, it looked ok from the distance, but disappointed on closer inspection. Eventually after numerous passes the quality of brush strokes looked intended enough and the painting was complete.
