With a few weeks before my group show at the Eagle Gallery in November 2022, I created a few compositions that I could hopefully ‘bash out’ in quick time. This was second of them.
I had a blank canvas with an appropriately sized frame which I had squirrelled away in the loft for a few years, and also a photographic image which worked for both size and proportions.
Although looking like rain might make a sudden appearance, the colourful nature of the view appealed to me. There is also a feeling of strata that appealed, and this informed the method of painting which was in sections from top to bottom.
So, a pretty straightforward piece. Once the composition worked it was pretty straight forward from there.
