143. The House at Eaton Bray
Acrylic on canvas
60 x 60cm
NFS
This Painting was a commission and thankfully was much appreciated by the client at the recent handover. I’d forgotten how stressful these exercises can be. Nothing difficult about the client, but the pressures that one puts oneself under for concerns over non-existent fears. Will they like it? Will it do everything they want it to? Will I finish it on time?
In this instance the house depicted was a restoration in progress. So, the desired for image was to be a realisation of this restored property on a summer’s day. Of course, I can’t be 100% as to how their project will turn out, or indeed what their full intentions are so I end up with a certain amount of guessing and hoping.
Getting into the project, leads to a fascinating line in research. I did some photography of the house upon initial briefing and returned twice more for clarification on a couple of aspects (and trying to get the sun in the right place). Google street view was a friend too, as it gave me views of the subject over two time periods. Indeed, my rendition is heavily based on the screen grab from one of these viewpoints.
Very pleased with the results, but feel a great weight lifted off my shoulders. Next commission pencilled in for November 2022. Yes, I’m that frightened of the process!
