Here endeth an at some points apparently endless journey into stones on a beach. Brighton beach to be precise. It was a lesson in colour mixing for me, and also a way of using a lot of tear off palette paper.
One point of interest on this journey was my change of how I used my palette over the course of production. Initially I filled in all the shapes with colours from a single palette of various mixed colours. Stage two was a new palette every stone (unless I could find identical stones to work on in one go) and finally I used a palette of core colours adjacent to a palette I mixed on, which I would periodically refresh. Months of torture/ joy depending on your point of view.
Very pleased with the result however, although a copy of a photo, the use of shapes rather than pixels really shines through and a 3D feel can be sensed here.
Much debate about the frame ensued on completion. I felt I would like to apply a higher price for the piece because of the hours of work involved, and so sought out a more expensive one from TK Maxx/Homesense. In the final reckoning, however, a sold off IKEA one seemed most appropriate, and that was the one used along with some tastefully selected mountcard.
