Here is the sister piece for painting 132 (so it’s worth reading that description first).
Eagle Gallery exhibitions allow the entry of two pieces per show. With a fairly short timescale for “Schism” I thought doing the same view but at night would help save time. I screwed the two canvases to two planks of wood which I then trapped in my easel. So, both could be painted concurrently.
Painting 132 was how the image was “composed” and the only differences are the colour scheme and the background detail.
The photo I used most for reference for painting 133 actually pre-dates the photo that I used for reference for painting 132 by some time. Indeed, the barrier rail across the grass area carries on to the left in this night time photo. The footpath out of shot going at right angles from this view would have had railing on the right side rather than the left. This alteration was instigated when a new flood alleviation scheme was installed. It is also suddenly summer time too!
Creating multiple versions of the same scene derides from an art education memory of Köln cathedral having an impressionist’s treatment. I’m not sure if this validates it as good artistic practise in itself, but I think it suggests the title is considered rather than a flippant one-off gag.
I hope that you like my flit into political art, which is now complete (Perhaps)
