I’d originally hoped to enter this piece for the annual art exhibition in the Church during the Kimpton festival April 2018. Unfortunately, I failed to complete it in time and so, this existed as a half-finished painting for over a year in my loft. I’m pleased to say I’ve now completed the work for the “New Painting” themed show at the Eagle Gallery (July 2019). Though if it hangs around I hope to also enter it into next year’s Kimpton art show.
The image is an amalgam from several sources, a different sky is added while the figures (me and my brother) are from a different graveyard completely! This is the first time I’ve shown a church centre stage- they generally make great compositions so I’m somewhat surprised at myself. Perhaps it’s the potential ‘chocolate boxness’ of it all that deters me from this topic. Hopefully there’s a little brooding mood present to take it away from the norm.
It’s quite texture heavy giving the viewer lots to see. Hopefully it gains an appreciative audience.
