This one is a straight re-working of Painting 99 “A Touch of Blue”, except much larger at 100cm square instead of 41 cm square. An explanation of the subject matter can be found with that painting’s entry on this site.
I was quite keen on this composition, and slightly disappointed to have sold it before I could display it in public. This was not the only reason to do this piece again.
In planning my next one man show at the Eagle Gallery, I decided to base it around two metre square canvases that I had recently bought. I was concerned that I could not create all new work in the time span I had before opening day, so an overall theme for the exhibition might be difficult. Then I considered using the two canvases as the core images and the rest of the show could be “greatest hits” if you like if necessary. In choosing what to paint on these large canvases I wanted something I was fairly certain that I would be happy with. This composition fitted the bill being fairly unseen and yet something I had been pleased with.
The challenges of large format painting would not be added to with concerns about composition or how to achieve it.
I’m very pleased with the results and all that is left is to order the frame from the German’s before Brexit hits!
P.S. Unfortunately 3 weeks before Brexit my German supplier would no longer deliver to the UK so alternatives had to be arranged.
