Here is the second piece to be completed from our holiday to the highlands of Scotland. This one was mainly completed on site with some tightening up in the studio to finish off. As described with painting 110, the possibilities were endless, so its perhaps slightly odd that I landed on this view. The choice had something to do with being inside looking out (nullifying any concerns over possible rain) but also being sat in a comfy chair without having to relocate. (It is a holiday don’t forget)
I must have been cogitating the possibilities when all of a sudden, the sun came out and the yellow flowers sprung from the view in front of me. The strata of the land appealed alongside this centre of attention.
I was concerned not to lose the ethereal nature that I had caught on site but in my studio tightening up session, I wanted a bit more substance to the foreground grass and definition to the gravel which had too loose a texture.
Perhaps this is a ‘something or nothing’ painting when one considers the neighbouring picturesque grandeur; but I feel there is a story here worth telling.
